This world famous yacht originally built by Camper Nicholson and sailed by Sir Francis Chichester in 1966 to beat previous sailing times to Australia. She is 53ft long and made of cold moulded mahogany with over 1500sq ft of sail. making the voyage in 107 days Sir Francis then went on to make even more records.

  1. Fastest voyage around the world for any small vessel.
  2. Longest non stop passage that had been made by a small sailing vessel. (15,000 miles)
  3. More than twice the distance of the previous longest passage by a singlehander.
  4. Twice broke the record for a singlehander's weeks run by more than a 100 miles.
  5. Established a record for singlehanded speed by sailing 1,400 miles in 8 days.
  6. By far his biggest achievment, he performed the first true solo circumnavigation via the three capes of Good Hope, Leewin and Horn making only one stop.

This famous yacht has been lovingly restored to its original splendour and is now available for skippered charter from our base at Ocean Village marina in Southampton.

She is available for skippered charter only and can only accommodate up to 5 guests.

MEC Sail offers a unique day, whether you wish to participate in the sailing of the yacht or just sit back and enjoy the sights of the Solent.

Typical Schedule for a Corporate Day

On arrival at Ocean Village Marina, Southampton (or at another port of your choice) you will be met by a member of our staff and escorted to Gipsy Moth. You will be welcomed on board by your skipper/hostess, served a champagne breakfast with a selection of hot filled rolls, croissants, ice cold champagne, coffee and tea.

Your skipper will give a full safety briefing on board and outline all of the safety features on board the yacht. He will then discuss with you the general programme for the days event.

A sumptuous lunch may be provided on board or ashore depending on your requirements. Please consult our menus or call for details.

Crew positions will be allocated for those wishing to get involved with the sailing and the programme planned according to the strengths and preferences of the crew.

You will then depart Ocean Village and head towards Southampton Water and the Solent, your hostess or skipper will keep you informed on all the landmarks on route. You may care to head for the Needles on the Isle of Wight or go East up towards Portsmouth and the naval dockyards. We can incorporate an anchor stop if you would like to have an on board meeting or perhaps go swimming off the rear of the yacht (weather permitting) if so desired. Cowes on the Isle of Wight is a very popular destination for a great lunch and leg stretch.

Soft drinks and snacks will be served throughout the day by our hostess.

You will have the opportunity on passage to take the helm, learn navigation and sailing techniques before returning to Ocean Village for post sail drinks to complete your luxury day out.
