Southampton's Ocean Village Marina part of the MDL group, is a small friendly marina ideally located on the South coast. It is tide free, very secure with ample safe parking nearby. Restaurants and bars are within a ten minute walk. Individuals joining our scheme place there trust in our partnership programme knowing that on every visit you will find a motor yacht at your disposal, fully fueled, clean provisioned and ready to go. it will be well maintained and managed by people who respect the value of their asset. Affordable Motor Boating

INTRODUCTION

Like most people visiting the boat show I am sure you have dreamed about the thrill of owning and cruising in a quality motor boat or sailing yacht on the South Coast.  Some people are extremely fortunate and can afford this luxury, however for most of us visiting the boat show is a great day out and owning your own boat is an unaffordable indulgence.
However, people who are considering the big step of purchasing a boat either new or brokerage, the question you will be asking yourself is. "How can I afford my own boat and run it with all the associated costs of mooring, servicing, maintenance, boat mortgage payments, depreciation and insurance and get worthwhile usage and enjoyment to justify spending my money”
It is estimated that the cost to run a boat per year is 10% of the boat’s value; therefore a boat costing £100k will cost typically £10,000 per year to run.  This excludes the annual boat depreciation of 5% and the cost to borrow the money that is becoming increasingly expensive.  So this could cost you in total nearly £20,000 per year.

THE OPTIONS

There is the option to charter a boat, however this can also be expensive with a one-off payment and you may not be familiar with the boat if you do not charter frequently.
MEC Sail has extensive experience managing and chartering motor boats and sailing yachts on the South Coast and the Mediterranean for many years. MEC Sail is delighted to offer the practical solution positioned between chartering and ownership that we have called “Just Cruising”
This puts a quality boat at your disposal to use during the year for a specified number of days (minimum 3 days to a maximum of 25 days per year) with the cost spread over a 12 month period.
Any boat in the Just Cruising programme will only be available to use in this way to a maximum of 25 days per year, so you are guaranteed easy access and enjoyable no stress usage when you want.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We have a high quality Bavaria 35 Sport Motor Cruiser 2006 four berth in twin separate cabins available in the Just Cruising programme that is fully certificated and equipped at Ocean Village Marina, Southampton.  
She is powered by twin Volvo Penta D4’s (260bhp each) diesels that are the latest engine options with EDC and has a top speed of 35 knots and will cruise very comfortably at 25 to 30 knots.  She has teak decking in the cockpit, leather seats and luxury carpets in the salon and cabins.

1. Ocean Village Marina offers excellent mooring facilities including mains electric, water, showers, toilets, laundry, quality secure car parking, three restaurants, bars and nightlife that include two cinemas.
2. A luxuriously appointed motor yacht including full marine electronics, 2 x VHF radios, windlass anchor, bow thruster, fully equipped galley, oven microwave, 2 x cooker hobs, two fridges, outside BBQ grill, radio/CD, heating and LCD TV with Freeview.
3. She is fully coded and available to take a maximum of 8 people for skippered or bareboat cruising or use her as a base to enjoy marina life and the South Coast.
4. For bareboat charter you must be able to prove your boating experience through a recognised qualification such as the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course.  Alternatively, we can arrange an experienced skipper at an additional charge
5. If you have no recognised qualification and would like to use her bareboat we would happy to arrange this for you at an additional charge using a qualified instructor on the boat of your choice. 
6. Based on purchasing 5 days per year this would cost you only £375 including VAT per month paid by monthly direct debit commencing January 2009 and ending December 2009
7. There is NO further financial commitment or outlay except a refundable deposit of £3,000 that covers your commitment to the programme for one year and any damage or breakages you cause that are not covered by the insurance.  Therefore, if you continue with the programme for the year and don’t sustain any damages or breakages to the boat your deposit will be fully refunded to you.
8. The boat will be fully fuelled and you will be required to replace any diesel you have used per day or we can charge you separately for this based on current marine fuel prices at Shamrock Marina plus a service charge.
9. If you enjoy your first year on the Just Cruising programme and want to commit for a further year your deposit would be retained.
10. Book your own boating calendar through MEC Sail and the dates are guaranteed for your own use
11. Relax in the knowledge that you have the guaranteed use of a quality motor cruiser in the Just Cruising programme during the year at a fixed monthly payment, and the boat is being professionally managed and maintained for your pleasure.
